All mounted followers must have their own liability cover.

The owner of a horse is now liable for its actions.

Useful advice for mounted followers of the hunt...

  • It is advisable to call the Master prior to the meet to confirm the venue.
  • On arrival at the meet make yourself known to the person collecting cap.
  • Please ask one of the Masters if you have any questions about the day.
  • Horses and riders should be smartly turned out (see below)
  • Always give priority to hounds and hunt staff. Hunt staff wear a blue coat with a red collar.
  •
  • When jumping please give the person in front of you time to clear the fence. If the horse refuses or the rider falls this then gives you time to take evasive action and prevent further problems.
  • Always follow instructions from the Field Master. The mounted field should not ride past the Field Master.
  • Horses predisposed to kick must wear a red ribbon and keep towards the rear of the mounted followers.

  • Young/Novice horses may wear a green ribbon to indicate a lack of experience and a degree of unpredicability. Other mounted followers are asked to heed this warning and give such horses space to become accustomed to the hunting field.

  • In order to maintain the goodwill of the farmers and other members of the public, it is requested that all members and visitors observe the following rules:
  • Ensure all gates found closed are left as found.

  • Do not ride over re-seeded grassland, lawn mown verges and grass, nor   through herds of cattle or flocks of sheep.

  • Any damage must be reported to the Master or the Fieldmaster. Broken fences are charged for at erected prices.

  • Under NO circumstances must any access point be obstructed by any horse transport nor by anyone following the hunt by car.

  • All parking areas MUST be cleaned up after the horses are boxed. Everyone must have a shovel and brush.

  • All followers are reminded that we hunt as guests of the farmers and are asked to behave accordingly with courtesy and politeness AT ALL TIMES.

  • Specific advice for foot/car followers of the hunt...

  • Foot/car followers please do not venture onto farmland unless you are asked to do so.

  • Foot followers are reminded not to walk to or around jumps until the hounds have passed as this will affect the hunting line.

    •
    • Hunting Attire: Formal dress, as in fox hunting. Horses should be plaited.
